NYE 04 Louvre

OK, I realise that NYE was ages ago but I just came across these old pics in my files at work and had to blog this one. The others are on Flickr if you click on this one. Have no idea what the crazy grin was for. We were standing in the Louvre forecourt watching the fireworks. There is an open bottle of champagne. I think you can all do the maths here!

June blooms

Moving on into a European summer. It is finally June and the coats have been pretty much put away. Life in Paris is good, work is running OK in the lead up to our General Assembly in two weeks and home life is good in the new apartment in the new arrondissement,

Since last blogging, I have had visitors again with three of my sister’s school friends here visiting and my friend Emma over from the UK. Kerryn and the boys stayed for three days thanks to the generous hospitality of my friends Nick, who is still stuck on a project in Coventry during the week, and Celine, who was in Bolivia teaching French, and let us use their apartment down the road. We went out a bit in the evenings when I wasn’t working to see some of the local sites and went to an amazing Eels concert at a small and trendy venue in the 11th. Both nights with the boys we didn’t eat until after 11pm with other things going on and it started to feel quite normal. On the third night, Kerryn and I had dinner on our own which was also fun.

After Kerryn left, Emma came in the same evening to be greeted by our 33 degree day, the hottest so far in Paris and very sticky and polluted. We made the most of the warm evening though and went up around the Sacre Coeur and Montmartre area. We spent the whole weekend behaving like real tourists and hitting all the major spots as it was Em’s first time in this lovely city. We climbed the tower, wandered the Louvre, Notre Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Place des Vosges, Bastille etc etc. We also made it to the Paris steeplechase where Nicky and Emma had some luck whilst my horses didn’t even finish their races! We had a fab dinner at Brasserie Flo where we were entertained by the waiters and even picked up free Champagne to end the night. Come Monday, I had the chance to have lunch with Em before she left and also catch up with my friend Brigid who I hadn’t seen in ages.

After they left, it was back to normal for the week. Have had a lovely weekend with some of Nick’s Aussie mates over from London and again on Sunday night ready to face a new week at work.

You will be pleased to hear that Gab is still alive after the move to Glasgow for those who haven’t had a chance to see her site.

Am writing from my new favourite place which is a little bar near home where I seem to end up on quite a regular basis. It may have something to do with the cute bar staff… In any event, I will sit on here and enjoy my kir and a bit more internet roaming including a download of the new Morcheeba album in preparation for the concert this week.

With all my love to everyone and speak again soon.
